Every animal that entered the shelter had its own personal file, containing all necessary records. For most dogs, these files were thin—adoptions usually happened quickly.
But when Kate pulled out Sadie’s folder, she was stunned. It was stuffed full of documents. The stack was far thicker than usual, evidence that Sadie’s short life had already been unusually complicated and troubling.
