After hanging up from the last call, Kate made a bold decision. She would take Sadie home for the night. It wasn’t standard shelter procedure, but she had to know what was happening.
“If I see it myself, I’ll understand,” she reasoned. With her bag slung over one shoulder and Sadie in her arms, she headed toward the shelter’s exit.
