That first evening went surprisingly well. Sadie behaved like the perfect houseguest. She followed Kate around politely, wagged her tail sweetly, and curled up peacefully on the couch.
“Hard to believe you’ve caused so much trouble,” Kate murmured, petting her gently. For a brief moment, she wondered if the complaints were exaggerated. But deep down, she knew the night wasn’t over yet.
