An hour dragged by. Kate’s eyelids grew heavy, convinced nothing would happen. But then—beep! The monitor chimed, jarring her awake. She bolted upright and snatched it, heart racing.
The kennel was empty. Sadie had escaped again. Kate cursed under her breath. “How do you keep doing this?” she whispered, shaking her head in disbelief. She focused anxiously on the screen.
