Calling mom
Kate quickly dialed her mother’s number, her hands trembling and voice shaking as the phone rang. When her mother picked up, Kate could barely contain her emotions. She stumbled over her words, trying to explain the strange encounter with the dog and the worn stuffed panda bear. “Mom, you won’t believe this,” she said, her voice cracking. “I found a dog with a toy panda bear—one with a red heart-shaped stain.”
