When the voices subsided, Matthew cautiously peeked inside the room. It was dimly lit, with rows of empty cages stacked neatly along the walls. The space felt eerily quiet, the emptiness only adding to his sense of unease. What had once been here? And where were the animals now? Matthew’s stomach churned at the thought. He knew he couldn’t stop searching until he found those puppies.
