Maddy’s tires screeched as they tore onto the highway, rubber burning against asphalt. The car surged forward, leaving the crash site behind, but the fear inside the vehicle clung tightly. Derek sat stiffly in the passenger seat, one hand gripping the strap of his bag where the laptop was hidden. His eyes darted to the rearview mirror every few seconds, convinced at any moment black SUVs would appear in pursuit.
