A long time under water
It was clear to the crew that the plane had been on the bottom of the ocean for quite some time. And it wasn’t just the old-school plane design that gave it away.
The vessel was completely rusted over, making it impossible to see company markings underneath. This was a problem because in order to make any sort of conclusion or search their records, they needed to identify the plane.
