But no matter how well they adapted to and liked their new lives on the mainland, they always remembered the island that had been their home for so long, and they stayed close, bound by the shared history of survival and resilience. About a year after their arrival, the pilot passed away at the respectable age of 90. He was old, wise and loving, and a true leader.
