Catching a break

Just as Jack considered giving up, his phone buzzed with an unexpected call. One of the investigators had changed his mind. “I traced the SIM card,” he said quietly. “It pinged a burner phone. That phone accessed a location—a plain office building on the city’s outskirts.” Jack’s heart thundered. For weeks he’d been running into walls. Finally, a lead had cracked open. It was fragile, but it was something worth pursuing immediately.
