Footsteps echoed from the hall, growing louder with each second. Jack froze, then darted behind a desk, clutching the stolen folder to his chest. The door creaked open, a shadow stretching across the floor. He held his breath, praying they wouldn’t notice. After a long moment, the figure turned and walked away, footsteps fading into silence. Jack waited an extra beat, then bolted from the room, adrenaline surging, determined to get out before he was caught.
