Not giving him a chance

Before Jack could decide, the door creaked open. A man stepped out, tall and imposing, his sharp features made harsher by the dim light. His piercing gaze locked onto Jack, freezing him in place. The silence between them grew unbearable. Jack’s breath hitched, adrenaline surging, every nerve screaming at him to move. He realized he had only seconds—seconds before this stranger decided whether Jack was an intruder or a problem to be eliminated.
