For a moment, Jack thought the man might lash out. His eyes narrowed, his body tense. Then, with a deep exhale, the tension slipped away. Wordlessly, he stepped aside and gestured for Jack to follow. No explanation, no reassurance—just a silent invitation. Jack hesitated, every instinct telling him to run. But desperation gnawed at him. He needed answers more than safety. With a cautious step forward, he followed, not knowing what waited ahead.
