Her hands felt clammy as she set the phone on the nightstand, her pulse racing. Megan tried desperately to explain it away. Maybe he’d found mold inside the fabric or a piece that had broken loose. Maybe he was unstable to begin with. But none of those explanations matched the fury, the urgency she had heard. Something far colder weighed down in her chest.
