He won’t stop

Megan barely dared to breathe as the doorbell’s relentless blare echoed through the house. Then, through the thin crack in her curtains, she caught movement on the sidewalk. Relief flickered when she recognized her neighbor, Mr. Holloway, striding steadily toward her porch. He was tall, broad-shouldered, with graying hair and the calm confidence of someone unshaken by nonsense. A wave of comfort washed over her. Maybe, with him here, she wasn’t completely on her own.
