“Only if my neighbor stays,” Megan said quickly, her voice firm with resolve. She wasn’t about to trap herself alone with a man who had already terrified her. Robert nodded immediately, without argument. “Fine. Both of you,” he agreed, his tone even. His easy acceptance eased her nerves just a little. Maybe he wasn’t dangerous after all. Maybe he really did just want answers. Megan felt herself relax the smallest fraction, though she stayed alert.
