Morning after

Morning light filtered through the curtains, chasing away shadows. Birds chirped cheerfully, oblivious to the night’s terror. Jason stirred first, rubbing his tired eyes.
Emily groaned beside him, stretching stiffly. Neither mentioned the noises or the fogged mirror. They forced themselves to believe it had all been nerves. “Maybe we’re just spooking ourselves,” Jason said weakly, though doubt lingered.
