Theories about its origin ranged from bird nests to mammal dens, but none of them completely fit. Something about the structure remained puzzling. “Could it belong to a rodent?” John wondered aloud as he turned the nest over in his hands again, examining its construction. “Possible,” Mark admitted. “But rodents don’t weave structures this intricate.” Their words hung in the air, the lack of answers only making them more uneasy.
