Face to Face

The beam of light revealed it—massive, huddled in the attic’s far corner, eyes glowing back at them. “Big one,” the officer muttered under his breath. The bear shifted, its low growl rising. The second officer carefully leveled the tranquilizer gun. “Easy, big guy,” he murmured before pulling the trigger. A sharp hiss cut the air as the dart embedded in the thick fur. The bear flinched, its growl rumbling louder.
