This part of the country had tornadoes now and then, sure—but earthquakes? The shaking grew stronger, and Charles jumped out of bed, his instincts kicking in. He ran to the doorway and stood beneath the frame like he’d seen people do in TV shows and safety videos. The ground rumbled violently, a deep, thunderous growl that he felt in his chest. It made his stomach twist. Everything around him felt suddenly unstable and completely unfamiliar.
