They sagged against the wall, lungs burning. Then Harold raised his light toward a vertical shaft in the far corner. Rusted rungs climbed into blackness above.
“That’s our way out,” Harold rasped. Marco nodded. It wasn’t welcoming, but it was hope — the only path back to the surface and daylight.
