All the wreckage
Charles stepped through the wreckage of his house, eyes scanning the broken furniture and shattered keepsakes. The roof had taken damage, too; he could see it from inside the house. Charles put on his coat and opened the front door. There, he saw cracks snaking across his porch and into the fields beyond. The air smelled strange for some reason—heavy, like wet soil and something chemical. A bad feeling settled in his gut.
