The stranger finally spoke, his voice still hoarse but growing steadier. “My name’s Tom Adler,” he said. “I was a pilot. Four years ago, I took off for a routine testing flight over this region. Mid-air, I hit severe turbulence—something I hadn’t seen coming. Instruments failed. The controls locked up. I lost altitude fast. I had no choice but to attempt an emergency landing.”
