Emma hurried across the attic, grasped the cabinet’s handle, and yanked it open. A thick cloud of dust shot outward, forcing her into a coughing fit. She swatted the air until she could see clearly again. Inside the cabinet’s drawer lay old brown boxes stacked haphazardly. She dragged one out, grunting at its surprising heaviness. “This thing is packed solid,” she whispered under her breath. Inside, she knew, were fragments of history waiting to be uncovered.
