Splitting the inheritance

There had been nothing unusual about Grandma Rose’s actual death. It was natural, expected, and peaceful. The odd part came later, when her estate was divided among the family. Emma had been in her early thirties at the time and wasn’t entitled to much, so she never gave the money much thought. Still, she remembered the tension, the heated arguments, and especially the strange commotion when it came to her mother’s share of the inheritance.
