Emma placed the sample into a sealed container and arranged for it to be processed through the lab. Nervous energy swirled inside her as she imagined every possible outcome. The waiting period would take around two weeks, even for staff, with no exceptions. That stretch of time became a mirror for her guilt. She had clearly broken doctor-patient confidentiality, a major ethical violation. Yet she pushed forward, unable to abandon her desperate need for answers.
