Opening the letter

Emma slid her finger under the sealed flap of the envelope, tearing it open with a quick, shaky motion. Her heart raced uncontrollably as she pulled out the thick, folded paper resting inside. For weeks she had waited, restless and uneasy, replaying possibilities over and over. She had submitted her blood sample alongside the patient’s, determined to face what the lab would uncover.
