As the road carried her closer, Emma rehearsed in her head what she might say once she stood face-to-face with Edgar. Demands for answers clashed with more careful approaches, but nothing stuck. Her imagined words scattered as quickly as they formed. Every scenario left her unprepared, reminding her that no rehearsal could truly match reality. Her heart pounded harder as the distance shortened. Soon, practice would no longer matter. Soon, she would arrive.
