Emma drove forward carefully, parking her car at a cautious distance. She stopped roughly eighty feet away from the front steps, her nerves tightening like a coil. Stepping out, the night air struck her face sharply, amplifying the buzzing in her chest. She moved slowly, each step deliberate, until she reached the porch. Raising her hand, she pressed the doorbell with a trembling finger. The sound echoed faintly inside, and her heart hammered wildly.
