Before she could react, he quickly added something unrelated, blurting about the weather again as though to steer the moment back into safer territory. Emma didn’t press. She understood at once: the tattoo was off-limits. He wasn’t going to explain it. His clipped tone and closed body language made that much crystal clear. The subject was officially shut down.
