The final ascent pushed his air to the edge. Matt’s lungs strained as he reached the research vessel’s platform. Crew members pulled him out, removing his face mask as he gasped for air. “You okay?” someone asked. He nodded, holding up the logbook in his glove. “I found something,” he said. “We were never supposed to know this place existed.” And then he exhaled fully.
