Night crept in slowly, shadows stretching across the tall windows until only the shimmering lake outside broke the darkness. Elliot lay back in bed, sheets cool against his skin. He wanted to close his eyes, to let go, but his thoughts refused to quiet. Questions looped endlessly, stubborn and unanswered.
