The Unfolding
With both hands, Ben reached for the folded edge of the bag. His fingers trembled. Rosa stood behind him, breath held. Carefully, he unfolded the corners, peeling the bag away from the creature inside. The light revealed something small, pink-faced, and wrapped in soft fuzz. The moment the fabric flattened fully, both Ben and Rosa gasped. It was a baby—but not one they expected.
