They called the vet immediately. As they waited, Rosa glanced at the security monitor. Mara was pacing wildly around the enclosure, scanning every corner, clearly searching for the baby. Her panic was evident, even through the grainy screen. “She’s looking for her,” Ben said softly. “She’s not just guarding it. She’s bonded with it.” Rosa’s chest tightened. “She was keeping it alive.”
