Morgan raised a hand deliberately, the motion signaling his men. Tim and Lewis lowered their rifles as ordered, though both kept their grips firm, their alertness clear. Their weapons tilted down, but their eyes never wavered. Morgan stepped forward slowly, studying the man who stood before him. He was gaunt, his cheeks sunken, his frame thin from days of hunger. But behind his worn features, something sharp lingered in his steady, watchful eyes.
