The air shifted immediately. It was warmer inside, humid and thick. Their footsteps rang sharp against the metal stairs as they descended one level. The corridor below was lined with closed cabin doors. Some still had nameplates or tags from passengers. Others were scratched out. Dylan passed a toppled suitcase near the wall—its contents scattered. Clothes, shoes, a cracked makeup mirror. “Someone left in a hurry.”
