They reached the last metal staircase, which descended steeply down. At the bottom: the engine room. “You hear that?” Dylan asked. A soft clang—metal on metal—echoed from below. Mason flicked his light downward but could see only red overhead lighting and thick steam. But then, a black shadow moved past the opening at the bottom of the staircase.
