Ross knocked twice, then three times, and a crewman inside pulled the door open. Warm light spilled from battery lamps. Inside were twenty ragged-looking men and women, wrapped in blankets, seated on crates and storage bins. Their faces lit up when they saw Dylan and Mason—two strangers from the outside world. “They came from shore?” someone asked, disbelief and hope mixing in every voice.
