“They made it through the water?” a woman asked, voice cracking. Mason gave a small nod. “We paddled in from the beach. It wasn’t that far.” A wave of emotion washed over the group. One man wiped his eyes. “We thought no one would ever find us.” Dylan looked around—faces worn thin, eyes hollow but alive. These people had been through something unimaginable.
