Something deeper

As he stared, Andrew noticed something strange in the reindeer’s eyes. It wasn’t anger or hunger. There was sadness there, almost like longing. Its body had stilled, its breath calmer, no longer urgent. Andrew felt an ache in his chest, a deep pull he couldn’t explain. The animal hadn’t come looking for food or out of aggression. It was seeking something else entirely—something Andrew couldn’t yet understand. But he could feel it.
