Broken Peace

The shift came suddenly. Without warning, the reindeer jerked back and snorted loudly, its breath misting in the air. Then, in a burst of strength, it reared up onto its hind legs. Andrew stumbled backward, nearly falling onto the cold pavement. His arms shot up instinctively in defense. Just moments ago, the animal had been calm. Now its tranquility was shattered, replaced by raw, unpredictable energy that made Andrew’s chest tighten.
