Conflicting thoughts

Andrew crossed the road, stepping into the shadowy edge of the forest. The light dimmed quickly beneath the trees, and silence pressed in. The reindeer walked ahead, pausing every few yards to glance back at him. Andrew muttered, “This is insane,” ducking beneath a low branch. Part of him screamed to turn back, to run toward safety. But another part, deeper and stronger, trusted the creature completely. Against reason, he kept walking.
