Finally, Andrew reached the reindeer, his breathing uneven. Only then did the truth of their surroundings reveal itself. They were standing in a vast clearing, framed by steep cliffs that towered like stone walls. At its center loomed a giant waterfall, or what had once been one. It should have been roaring, crashing water down into the valley floor. Instead, it had become something else entirely.
