Telling lies

Andrew thought back to his interview months earlier. They’d promised him sustainability, said they replanted more trees than they cut. They’d spoken warmly of protecting nature, of giving back more than they took. It was their mission statement, their pride. Andrew had believed it—completely. Now, staring at the blackened water and the reeking smoke, those words felt hollow. The lies he had swallowed had been dressed as promises.
