Showing respect

Andrew’s heart pounded as he carefully bent his knees and lowered himself to the asphalt. He sat cross-legged, pressing his palms onto his thighs, keeping his head lowered, eyes fixed away. The reindeer drew closer, its breath audible in the cold air, heavy and steady. “Okay… easy,” Andrew whispered, his voice trembling. Fear clung to him, but he forced himself to stay still. Every second felt impossibly long as the animal approached.
