No Grand Gesture

The animal didn’t move closer, didn’t stomp or snort. It simply stood there, its dark eyes fixed on him, the faint light glinting off its antlers. There was no need for anything more. Andrew felt the meaning instantly. The reindeer’s silence said everything: acknowledgment, gratitude, farewell. He swallowed hard, realizing he didn’t need words either. They both knew why they had come to this place one last time.
