The only guests

They lingered at the edge of the lawn, unsure of what to do. The silence pressed down on them, broken only by the faint rustle of leaves in the wind. There were no cars lined up, no groups of curious buyers chatting near the walkway, and no doors swinging open in welcome. Open houses were usually crowded, even chaotic, but here they stood completely alone. Rose frowned. Were they really the only ones who had come?
