No Sleep Until Dawn

Hours passed, but neither dared to move, their eyes glued to the bedroom door, waiting for the handle to rattle. They whispered nothing, too scared their voices might awaken the house again. By the time the first pale glow of dawn crept through the edges of the curtains, they were still awake, sitting side by side. They looked utterly drained, haunted by the long night. Sleep had not come for either of them.
