Breaking open the door

Arthur’s voice was steady when he finally spoke. “Let’s break it down.” Rose’s eyes widened, but she didn’t argue. There was no other choice now. Together, they retrieved a crowbar and headed back inside. The hallway leading to the locked rooms looked less terrifying by daylight, its shadows softened by sunlight. Taking a deep breath, Arthur counted, “One, two, three!” He swung the crowbar with force, and the door cracked open with a deafening snap.
