And there, seated calmly in the middle of it all, were two frail figures. An elderly man and woman, their hair silver and their hands trembling faintly, looked up at them with wide eyes. Their voices cracked as they spoke in unison, a sound both eerie and fragile: “You’ve got us.” The words sent shivers down Rose’s spine.
